Crockpot Baked Beans
These sweet and saucy Crockpot Baked Beans are a summer BBQ classic and a popular side dish that are perfect for family gatherings! The sauce gets thick and sticky in the slow cooker, just the way we like it!

Ingredients
- 6 slices Bacon
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 40-50 ounces canned baked beans see notes
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Dice the bacon into bite-sized pieces. Dice the onion and mince the garlic.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the bacon and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring often, until the fat has rendered.
- Add the onion to the skillet and continue cooking for about 5 minutes to soften up the onions. Stir in the garlic and continue cooking for 1 minute.
- Use a slotted spoon to scoop the bacon and onion mixture out into a crockpot. This will transfer some of the bacon grease to the crockpot, which does add flavor.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the crockpot and stir well to combine.
- Cover and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-7 hours. Stir occasionally as the beans cook to prevent the edges from burning.
- Serve warm.

Notes
- Canned Beans: We like to use a variety of canned baked beans and usually grab 2 20-ish ounce cans of different varieties and just mix and match. Anywhere between 40 to 50 ounces of beans will be perfect for this amount of seasoning/sauce.
- Our preferred beans are Bush's Grilling Beans, but any variety you love will work. Do not drain off the sauce.
- Spice: To add a bit of spice, cook some minced jalapeno along with the onion or stir in 1/2-1 teaspoon of ground cayenne.
- BBQ Sauce: Any variety of barbecue sauce is fine. We usually go for a thick, sweet sauce, like Sweet Baby Ray’s or our homemade bourbon bbq sauce.
- Cook Time: We prefer to cook these on high for close to 4 hours, stirring occasionally, for a thick, sort of caramelized sauce. You can cook for less time for a thinner sauce or more time to thicken it up even further.
- Keep Warm: These will stay nice and warm on the ‘warm’ setting of your crockpot for a couple of hours. Just stir every now and then to prevent them from burning around the edges.
