Double Chocolate Waffles With Berry Sauce

These decadent chocolate waffles are dotted with chocolate chips and topped with a sweet berry sauce. They also make a great dessert served with vanilla ice cream and Buttermilk Caramel Syrup!

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips or roughly chop regular sized chocolate chips
  • Whipped Cream for garnish, sweetened
  • cocoa powder for garnish- if desired, or powdered sugar, additional

Berry Sauce

  • 1/4 cup raspberry jam or strawberry jam
  • 2 tablespoons water hot
  • 3 cups berries any combination, fresh or frozen, frozen
  • powdered sugar optional, to taste

Instructions

  1. To make the berry sauce, combine the jam and hot water and whisk until combined. Gently stir in the berries until combined. Use the back of a spoon to smash berries to desired consistency. Depending on the sweetness of the berries, you can add a little powdered sugar if you'd like. Set sauce aside.
  2. Whisk together flour, cornstarch, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, milk, oil, egg, and vanilla
  4. Slowly add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients a little at a time, whisking until just combined; be careful not to overmix. Stir in the chocolate chips. this is thin batter.
  5. For best results, let batter rest for 15-30 minutes before cooking
  6. Preheat waffle iron and butter or spray with nonstick spray.
  7. Ladle batter into waffle iron, being careful not to overfill. Cook according to the instructions for your waffle iron.
