Ingredients
- 2 cans crescent rolls
- 1 lb sweet Italian sausage crumbled, casings removed
- 2 medium apples peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 2 tbsp brown sugar adjust based on apple sweetness
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2-3 garlic cloves minced
- 1 cup shredded Italian cheese mix
- ½ cup ricotta cheese
- 2 eggs lightly beaten divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F
- Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, add the sweet Italian sausage and cook until browned. Break it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once fully cooked, remove from the skillet and drain excess fat if needed.
- Sauté the Apples and Onion: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sliced apples. Saute for about 5 minutes until the onions are soft and the apples are slightly tender. Add in the minced garlic and sugar; continue cooking or another 2 minutes, remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Mix the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, sautéed apple and onion mixture, shredded Italian cheese, ricotta cheese, and one beaten egg. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Prepare the Crescent Roll Crust: Unroll the crescent rolls and press them into the bottom and up the sides of a greased 9-inch pie dish or baking dish, making sure to seal any seams.
- Fill the Pot Pie: Pour the sausage and apple filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
- Top with Crescent Rolls: Take the second can of crescent rolls, unroll its and place the triangles on top of the filling.
- Brush with Egg: Use the remaining beaten egg to brush over the top of the crescent rolls for a nice golden color when baked.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and fully cooked. Serve warm and enjoy!
