Easy Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry
This beef and broccoli stir fry uses thinly sliced london broil steak cooked with broccoli florets in a savory sauce combining soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and cornstarch for thickening. The stir fry yields tender textured beef and crisp-tender broccoli coated in a balanced, slightly sweet and aromatic sauce. It is commonly served over rice and optionally garnished with toasted sesame seeds.
Ingredients
- 1 pound london broil steak sliced thinly into small strips
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
- 1 pound broccoli cut into 6 cups of florets
- 2 teaspoon sesame seeds optional garnish
For the Sauce:
- ½ cup water hot
- 6 Tablespoons soy sauce or gluten free Tamari or coconut aminos, low sodium
- 2 Tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar packed
- 1 ½ Tablespoons corn starch
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 2 teaspoons ginger or fresh ginger, grated, paste
- ½ teaspoons black pepper
- sesame seeds optional
Instructions
- If serving with rice, start cooking it first per the package directions.
- Slice steak into think small strips
- In a small bowl, combine the stir fry sauce ingredients and mix well. Then set aside.
- Add a 1 Tablespoon of sesame oil to a large skillet heat on medium heat.
- Add broccoli florets and 2 tablespoons of water and cook for approximately 5 minutes covered until broccoli turns bright green. Then place in a bowl while cooking steak.
- Add the other tablespoon of oil and heat the skillet on medium high to high heat.
- Add the beef strips in a single layer and cook quickly for approximately 2 minutes on each side.
- Pour the sauce over the meat and reduce the heat to low and simmer for 4-5 minutes tunil the sauce has thickened.
- Add the broccoli back into the skillet and toss to coat with sauce.
- Serve over white rice.
Notes
- Substitute flank steak, sirloin, or other preferred beef cuts if desired.
- If the sauce thickens too much, thin it with a tablespoon of water to reach desired consistency.
- Sesame oil can be swapped with olive oil for a different flavor profile.
- This stir fry can be served over brown rice, but adjust cooking time accordingly before adding beef.
