Easy Beer Batter Recipe

Deep-fried beer batter fish is a favorite dish with just about everyone. The fish is delicate and flaky and the batter is golden brown and crispy. If you enjoy a fish & chips meal from time to time, try this recipe for homemade beer batter.

Ingredients

  • 4 White fish filets
For the Beer Batter
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Flouring Mixture
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  1. Combine the batter ingredients and mix until a smooth batter forms. There should be no lumps in the batter. Set it aside for 30 minutes.
  2. When you’re ready to fry the fish, add 2-3 inches of oil to a heavy saucepan and heat until it reaches 375°F, or preheat a deep fryer. Line a large plate or platter with paper towels and set it aside.
  3. Combine the flouring ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
  4. Dredge two fish filets in the flour mixture and tap lightly to remove the excess flour.
  5. Dip the floured fish filets into the batter ensuring that they’re covered with a thick coating of batter.
  6. Gently place the filets into the heated oil.
  7. Cook for about 4 minutes per side or until medium golden brown.
  8. Remove and drain the fish on the prepared paper towels. Repeat with the remaining filets and serve.
