Easy Chicken Balti Recipe
Chicken Balti is a spiced curry prepared by simmering chicken chunks with a blend of aromatic whole spices, onions, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, and garam masala. The dish develops a rich, thick sauce with a balance of heat from chili powder and tang from lime juice and yogurt. Garnished with fresh coriander, this curry is cooked in vegetable oil and offers a flavorful main suitable for serving with rice or bread.
Ingredients
- 3 chicken breast
- 2 onion large
- 1 tablespoon Garlic puree
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 3 tomato
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tablespoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- 4 peppercorns
- 3 cardamom pods
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon Greek yogurt
- 2 teaspoon lime juice
- Coriander or parsley, aka cilantro, fresh, to serve
- 3 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat up the oil in a pan set over a low to medium heat.
- Peel and chop the onions, and fry until soft and golden.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, garlic puree, ginger, garam masala, chilli powder, cinnamon stick, peppercorns and cardamom pods and stir well.
- Leave to cook for about 5 minutes or until the tomatoes are mushy.
- Cut the chicken breasts into chunks, then add them to the curry sauce.
- Stir well to coat, then leave to cook for about 15 minutes or until the liquid is released, and the chicken is cooked through.
- Add the yogurt and lime juice, and leave to cook for a further 2-3 mintues.
- Garnish with chopped coriander (cilantro).
