Easy Cold Brew Coffee Recipe
This straightforward recipe shows how to create mild, smooth cold brew coffee using coarsely ground coffee beans steeped in filtered water for 12 to 15 hours. The long, slow steeping extracts the coffee flavors gently, resulting in a concentrate that can be diluted with water, milk, or creamer and served over ice. It's a way to prepare a less acidic, refreshing coffee drink at home without special equipment.
Ingredients
- 4 cups water filtered
- 1 cup coffee beans
Instructions
- Grind your coffee beans to a medium coarse consistency.
- Add the water and ground coffee beans to a mason jar or other glass storage container. Then, leave it on your counter to steep for 12 to 15 hours.
- Strain the coffee through a fine mesh sieve that's lined with a couple layers of cheesecloth over a large measuring cup or bowl. Alternatively, you could use a nut-milk bag or coffee filter on top of the sieve.
- Pour the strained cold brew concentrate back into a clean mason jar and store in the refrigerator.
- To serve, pour the cold brew concentrate over ice, with water or with your favorite milk or creamer.
Notes
- This recipe yields about 3 cups of cold brew concentrate when prepared in a mason jar.
- For larger quantities, a cold brew coffee maker can produce twice the amount and ease the brewing process.
