Easy Glazed Ham Recipe

Easy Glazed Ham is a spiral-sliced 6 to 8-pound ham baked with a sweet glaze, yielding a tender and flavorful centerpiece. A two-stage roasting process starts at a low oven temperature to warm the ham, followed by a higher temperature to caramelize the glaze and create a lightly browned crust. Additional glaze and resting allow the flavors to deepen.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 pound ham spiralized
  • 1 cup ham glaze

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 325°.
  2. Place the ham flat flesh side down in a 13x9 casserole dish or large roasting pan.
  3. If the ham is spiralized, generously spoon on or brush on a ¼ cup of glaze all around the top of the ham. See chef notes above if it is not spiralized.
  4. Tent the ham and bake at 325° for 90 minutes for a 6–8-pound ham.
  5. Uncover the ham, spoon on or brush on an additional ¼ cup of glaze all around the top of the ham and bake at 400° for 30-40 minutes or until lightly browned on top.
  6. Cover the ham and rest for 20-30 minutes before basting one more time using the glaze and juices in the bottom of the pan before serving.

Notes

  • Serve the ham soon after resting for best flavor and texture; it can be kept warm covered at 225°F for up to 1 hour.
  • Store cooled ham covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze wrapped for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat in a pan with glaze and chicken stock covered at 350°F until warmed through.
  • Most commercial hams are pre-cooked; this recipe reheats and glazes the ham rather than cooking raw meat.
  • If not using spiral-cut ham, score a 1-inch checkered pattern on the surface (except flesh side) to help glaze absorption.
  • For a smokier flavor, the ham can be smoked at 275°F until reaching 140°F internal temperature.
