Easy Guajillo Sauce is a smooth, flavorful sauce made by simmering dried guajillo and árbol chiles with garlic, onion, and seasonings, then pureed with cumin, oregano, and black pepper. The blending of softened chiles and aromatics creates a moderately spicy, smoky sauce ideal for enhancing Mexican dishes.
Ingredients
- 6 guajillo chiles dried
- 3 árbol chile dried
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3 garlic peeled, cloves
- ½ onion chopped
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon cumin ground
- 1 teaspoon oregano dried, Mexican
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Remove the stems and seeds from the guajillo & arbol chiles.
- In a medium saucepan, add the chiles, garlic cloves, onion, 4 cups water and 1 teaspoon salt.
- Bring the water to a boil then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 10 minutes or until the guajillo chiles are soft.

Notes
- Check that your dried chiles are soft and pliable before use to ensure freshness and ease of blending.
