Easy Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, grated or minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup red wine, optional
  • 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 14.5 ounces diced tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan or pot over medium high heat add 2 teaspoons of olive oil.
  2. Once the oil is hot add in the diced onion and saute for 3 minutes.
  3. Add in the minced garlic and saute another minute.
  4. Add in the tomato paste and wine mixing everything together for another minute.
  5. Pour in the can of crushed tomatoes and diced tomatoes and stir.
  6. Add in the remaining ingredients and stir once more.
  7. Bring the sauce to a boil, then cover the pot and reduce the heat to low.
  8. Let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Notes

  • This sauce can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week or frozen for later use.
