Easy Mexican Horchata
Easy Mexican Horchata is a creamy, cinnamon-infused rice-based beverage brewed by soaking white rice in water before blending it with evaporated milk, sugar, and vanilla. The drink combines sweet and warm spices with a smooth, chilled finish that can be enjoyed over ice. It offers a traditional way to prepare this refreshing Mexican drink, with options to keep or strain the rice texture to suit personal preference.
Ingredients
- 1 cup white rice uncooked
- 4 cups water
- 12 ounces evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Pour the rice and water into a blender. Let soak at room temperature 3 to 4 hours, or up to 12 hours, until rice is softened.
- Strain and reserve the rice infused liquid and discard rice, or keep the rice in the water (see recipe notes).
- Add in the evaporated milk, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon in with the rice and water.
- Blend on high until completely smooth. Serve chilled or over ice.
Notes
- Straining the horchata is optional; unstrained horchata has a thicker texture with mild rice sediment.
- If you keep the rice in the drink, blend for at least 2 minutes to minimize graininess.
