Easy Tzatziki Sauce

Easy Tzatziki Sauce combines grated cucumber, thick Greek yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, and fresh herbs like parsley and mint for a refreshing, creamy dip with a mild garlic and dill flavor. The cucumber is salted and drained to remove excess moisture, ensuring the sauce stays thick and smooth. This versatile sauce works well as a condiment for sandwiches, grilled meats, or as a dip.

Ingredients

  • ½ English cucumber
  • 2 cups Greek yogurt I typically use Fage 2%, thick
  • 2 TBSP lemon juice fresh
  • 1 clove garlic smashed and minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 TBSP parsley fresh chopped
  • ½ TBSP mint optional, fresh, chopped
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ⅛ tsp dill fresh works great too, dried
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Place a box grater on a cutting board and grate half an English cucumber into little shreds. If using a conventional cucumber, peel before grating.
  2. Chop into small pieces with a chefs knife and sprinkle with sea salt to draw out the water from the cucumber.
  3. While cucumber sits, combine yogurt with lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, parsley, mint (optional but tasty!) and season with garlic powder and dried dill.
  4. Now that the cucumbers have had a few minutes to sit, Wring out the liquid by placing your cucumber in the center of a small stack of 3 paper towels, Squeeze/twist to get the water our over your sink and then add the cucumber to your dip. Stir and season with any additional salt and pepper you desire. Feel free to season with any extra dill or garlic powder as well - let your taste buds be your guide!
  5. Pop in the fridge to chill.
  6. Serve with all your favorite dippers, sandwiches, or proteins. This fresh tzatziki sauce is great on everything!

Notes

  • Use fresh herbs such as parsley and mint to enhance the flavor, but adjust according to what's available.
  • Salt the grated cucumber and squeeze out excess liquid thoroughly to avoid a watery sauce.
  • Additional garlic, lemon zest, or dried spices can boost flavor if herbs are limited.
  • Garnish with herbs, olive oil, or paprika for a decorative touch before serving.
  • Chill the sauce to allow flavors to meld; the taste intensifies after a day refrigerated.
