Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and add the water, oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and tap gently to release any air bubbles.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting or serving.
