Flag Baked Oatmeal
Flag Baked Oatmeal is a baked oat dish flavored with cinnamon, maple syrup, mashed banana, and almond milk, folded with fresh berries, then baked and decorated like a flag using white chocolate, fruit slices, or whipped toppings. It’s a visually striking and tender baked oatmeal suitable for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats old-fashioned
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt sea salt
- 2 cups almond milk
- 1 Tablespoon Flaxseed ground
- 1 Tablespoon coconut oil melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 banana plus 1 additional banana if using banana slices for topping, ripe, mashed
- 1 cup strawberry half chopped and half sliced, divided
- 1 cup Blueberry divided
- white chocolate chips depending on how you want to decorate, toppings, 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
- cocowhip
- vanilla icing
- cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Spray a rectangular baking dish with cooking spray. I used a 3.15 qt. (12.5" x 8.25") baking dish.
- In a large bowl, mix together the oats, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Add in milk, maple syrup, flaxseed, coconut oil, vanilla and mashed banana. Stir well to combine.
- Gently fold in 1/2 cup chopped strawberries and 1/2 cup blueberries.
- Carefully pour oatmeal mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until the middle of the bake is set and the top/edges are a little golden.
- Remove from the oven and let cool and decorate as a flag using one of the options I share below in the notes.
- Cut into portion and serve.
Notes
- Decorate baked oatmeal after cooling by melting white chocolate chips and arranging blueberries to form stars in a rectangle, with sliced strawberries and bananas forming stripes.
- Alternative decorations include spreading whipped topping or vanilla frosting, then forming the flag pattern with fresh fruit slices.
- Use dairy-free options like So Delicious Cocowhip for a vegan whipped topping alternative.
- Greasing or spraying the baking dish helps with easy serving and prevents sticking.
