Flag Baked Oatmeal
Description
This recipe mixes rolled oats with baking powder, cinnamon, salt, almond milk, maple syrup, ground flaxseed, melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, and mashed ripe banana to form a moist batter. Half the diced strawberries and blueberries are folded in before pouring into a greased or sprayed baking dish. Baking at 375°F for 30 minutes produces a set center and slightly golden edges.
After baking, the oatmeal can be decorated with melted white chocolate chips shaped into a rectangle, topped with blueberries as stars, and fruit slices arranged as stripes to resemble a flag. Alternative decorations include a layer of whipped topping or vanilla frosting with fruit laid out in rows for the flag design.
The dish serves as a festive breakfast or brunch centerpiece that combines comforting oat texture with sweet fruit and subtle spice. Using different decoration methods allows customization for visual appeal. The baked oatmeal holds its shape when sliced, making it suitable for serving multiple portions.
Options for decorating include melted white chocolate chips, So Delicious Cocowhip for a dairy-free whipped topping, or store-bought vanilla frosting like Simple Mills. Preheating the oven and greasing the dish ensures easy removal and even baking.

- Alternative decorations include spreading whipped topping or vanilla frosting, then forming the flag pattern with fresh fruit slices.
- Use dairy-free options like So Delicious Cocowhip for a vegan whipped topping alternative.
- Greasing or spraying the baking dish helps with easy serving and prevents sticking.
