Flaky Pie Dipping Sticks

These flaky pie dipping sticks are crispy, crumbly, lightly sweetened and amazing in some dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter cold
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with peachment paper.
  2. In a bowl, add in the milk and vinegar. I used apple cider, but distilled will work as well. Let sit for 5-10 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, add in the flour, salt and 1/4 cup of sugar. Stir to combine.
  4. Cut the shortening and butter into the flour until it's well incorporated. Small pea sized balls are good enough.
  5. Add in the milk and stir to combine.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a well floured surface. Flour the rolling pin and the top of the pie dough.
  7. Roll out and use a pizza cutter to cut the sticks.
  8. Place on a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
  9. Brush each stick with the heavy cream. If you don't have cream, beat 1 egg and brush that on.
  10. In a small bowl, add the 2 T. of sugar and ground cinnamon.
  11. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of the dipping sticks.
  12. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Remove from the oven and let cool.
  14. Serve with a big cup of salted caramel sauce.

Notes

  • To store any leftover dipping sticks, place in an air tight container and store at room temperature for up to 3 days.
