French Dip Sliders

French Dip Sliders are the handheld, mini version of the traditional French dips, complete with caramelized onions, tangy provolone cheese, and tender roast beef. It even comes with au jus gravy on the side for dipping!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter unsalted
  • 1 medium onion sliced thin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 12 lices deli roast beef
  • 12 lices Provolone cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter unsalted, melted
  • 2 tablespoons onion soup mix like Lipton brand
  • 1 packet au jus mix
  • 3 cups water
  • Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375° F and spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium skillet, add the butter, sliced onion, garlic powder, pepper and salt.
  3. Sauté over medium heat until the onions are tender and caramelize.
  4. Carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls along the middle of the rolls creating a top and bottom half.
  5. Remove the top layer and place the bottom half of rolls in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Place the roast beef slices evenly over the bottom rolls.
  7. Then layer the sautéd onions and then place the provolone cheese over top of the cooked onions.
  8. Place the top layer of rolls over the cheese layer.
  9. In a small bowl, add the melted butter and onion soup mix and whisk together well.
  10. Brush the butter mixture evenly over the entire top of the rolls.
  11. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake until the cheese is melted and tops are golden brown.
  12. While baking the sliders, add 3 cups of water and the au jus mix to a small pan and stir together well.
  13. Heat to a boil over medium-high heat then lower the heat to simmer until sauce thickens.
  14. Slice and serve sliders warm and dip into the au jus sauce.

Notes

  • Sprinkle the tops with poppy seeds.
  • Use sliced American cheese or cheddar cheese.
  • You can also bake them on a baking sheet or wrapped completely in foil.
  • Add mustard or mayonnaise to the bottom of the rolls if desired before adding the roast beef.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze in a freezer bag or freezer safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator.
  • Reheat in the oven until heated through.
