French Dressing Recipe
This French Dressing blends grated onion and garlic into a tangy base of ketchup, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce, sweetened with sugar and seasoned with paprika. Slowly whisking in a neutral oil emulsifies the ingredients into a smooth dressing with a balanced sweet, sour, and savory profile, suitable for salads or dipping.
Ingredients
- ¼ yellow onion peeled, finely grated
- 1 garlic finely grated, one clove
- ¾ cup ketchup
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 cup neutral flavored oil
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Finely grate the onion into a bowl.
- Also finely grate the garlic into the same bowl.
- Add in the ketchup, vinegar, hot sauce, Worcestershire, sugar, and paprika to the bowl.
- Slowly drizzle in the oil while continuing to whisk until it is emulsified.
- Adjust the seasonings with salt and pepper and serve or store.
Notes
- Pour the oil slowly while whisking constantly to achieve proper emulsification without separation.
- Sweetener can be swapped for honey, maple syrup, or agave according to preference.
- Neutral oils work best; blending oils can add complexity to the flavor.
- The dressing can be made up to three days in advance; flavors develop further with time.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 7 to 10 days and bring to room temperature before serving.
