Fried Biscuits (Disney Copycat)
These fried biscuits combine a rich blend of Monterey jack and cheddar cheese with spicy jarred jalapeños and cooked bacon, wrapped inside biscuit dough and deep-fried until golden brown. The crispy exterior contrasts with the molten cheese and bacon filling, making them an indulgent snack or appetizer. Their preparation involves forming cheese balls from the mixed filling, freezing them, then encasing them in biscuit sections before frying, which ensures a tidy, melty center.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups Monterey jack cheese shredded
- 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese shredded
- 4-5 tablespoons jalapeño from a jar, (not fresh, finely diced
- 5-6 lices Bacon finely chopped, cooked
- 1 egg beaten
- 1-2 teaspoons milk or as needed
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 (16.3-ounce) large biscuit 8 count, tube
- cooking oil for frying
Instructions
- Cover a plate or tray with parchment paper. Set aside
- Combine cheeses, jalapeno, bacon, egg, milk, salt, and pepper in a medium mixing bowl. Mix with a spoon until well combined. It will keep its shape when you squeeze it together firmly in your hand.
- Using a small cookie scoop, scoop a small ball (about the size of a typical bouncy ball) and roll it in your hands until it stays together and forms a smooth, tight ball. Repeat with the remaining cheese mixture. You should have about 32 balls.
- Place the balls on the prepared tray. Cover with plastic wrap. Freeze for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Remove cheese balls from the freezer. Open the biscuit dough.
- Cut each biscuit into 4 sections. Flatten each section and wrap one around each cheese ball, rolling it in your hands to make sure there are no holes or seams. You want it to be smooth and round.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350 degrees F. Fry each ball until dark golden brown.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- If the cheese filling isn’t fully melted after frying, microwaving for 10 seconds helps it soften evenly.
- Sweet toppings like powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or honey butter mixed with apricot or strawberry jam add a contrasting flavor option.
- Freeze the cheese balls covered before wrapping in biscuit dough to maintain shape and ease handling.
