Fried Biscuits (Disney Copycat)
Description
Fried Biscuits (Disney Copycat) showcase a packed filling of shredded Monterey jack and cheddar cheeses mixed with diced jarred jalapeños and finely chopped cooked bacon. The mixture is bound with beaten egg and a little milk, then shaped into small balls and frozen to hold their shape. Each frozen cheese ball is then wrapped with biscuit dough sections, rolled smooth, and deep-fried at 350°F until dark golden brown, creating a crisp outer layer. This cooking method maintains a creamy, cheesy interior contrasted by the flaky biscuit outside.
The flavor balances salty, smoky bacon with sharp cheeses and a touch of heat from the jalapeños. These fried bites are best served hot to preserve the soft, gooey filling, suitable as a snack or party finger food. They can be enhanced with sweet accompaniments like powdered sugar or honey butter blended with fruit jam for contrast.
To ensure the cheese melts completely, a quick 10-second microwave zap can finish any with slightly firm centers. Storing the prepared cheese balls frozen before frying allows for convenient batch cooking. Adjust spices to taste and avoid fresh jalapeños as they alter texture. The recipe yields about 32 bite-sized fried biscuits for sharing or serving as appetizers.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups Monterey jack cheese shredded
- 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese shredded
- 4-5 tablespoons jalapeño from a jar, (not fresh, finely diced
- 5-6 lices Bacon finely chopped, cooked
- 1 egg beaten
- 1-2 teaspoons milk or as needed
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 (16.3-ounce) large biscuit 8 count, tube
- cooking oil for frying
Instructions
- Cover a plate or tray with parchment paper. Set aside
- Combine cheeses, jalapeno, bacon, egg, milk, salt, and pepper in a medium mixing bowl. Mix with a spoon until well combined. It will keep its shape when you squeeze it together firmly in your hand.
- Using a small cookie scoop, scoop a small ball (about the size of a typical bouncy ball) and roll it in your hands until it stays together and forms a smooth, tight ball. Repeat with the remaining cheese mixture. You should have about 32 balls.
- Place the balls on the prepared tray. Cover with plastic wrap. Freeze for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Remove cheese balls from the freezer. Open the biscuit dough.
- Cut each biscuit into 4 sections. Flatten each section and wrap one around each cheese ball, rolling it in your hands to make sure there are no holes or seams. You want it to be smooth and round.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350 degrees F. Fry each ball until dark golden brown.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- If the cheese filling isn’t fully melted after frying, microwaving for 10 seconds helps it soften evenly.
- Sweet toppings like powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or honey butter mixed with apricot or strawberry jam add a contrasting flavor option.
- Freeze the cheese balls covered before wrapping in biscuit dough to maintain shape and ease handling.
