Frozen Bananas

Frozen bananas are an American dessert made with a banana placed on a stick, frozen and dipped in melted chocolate or yogurt.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6 large and long bananas
  • 12 wooden sticks , like ice cream sticks
  • 14 oz. dark chocolate , about 43% cocoa, grated
  • 14 oz. vanilla yogurt (or another flavor)

  • Rainbow sprinkles
  • chocolate sprinkles
  • roasted hazelnuts , finely chopped
  • toasted pecans , finely chopped
  • toasted almonds , finely chopped
  • Toasted pistachios , finely chopped
  • roasted cashews , finely chopped
  • shredded coconut
  • pearl sugar
  • cookies , crushed or ground

Instructions

  1. Peel the bananas and cut them in half to obtain 10 banana pieces.
  2. Skewer the cut end of each banana with a wooden stick, inserting it until the banana is steady.
  3. Line a baking sheet with wax paper or, failing that, parchment, place the bananas on the baking sheet and place them in the freezer for about 1½ hours or until firm.
  4. Once the bananas are firm, pour the grated chocolate into a mixing bowl and melt it in a bain-marie.
  5. Pour each chosen garnish into a deep dish or shallow bowl and place them near the bain-marie.

Chocolate bananas

  1. When the chocolate is melted and the toppings are ready, take the bananas out of the freezer.
  2. Hold a banana over the melted chocolate.
  3. Using a small ladle or large serving spoon, drizzle a generous amount of chocolate over the banana, swirling it around and pouring in more chocolate until it's all full and generously covered.
  4. It's important to work very quickly, as the chocolate starts to set soon after touching the frozen banana.
  5. Allow the excess chocolate to drip into the bowl.
  6. Quickly move the banana to one of the topping dishes and, using a spoon, sprinkle any topping of your choice over the banana, letting the excess fall back into the dish.
  7. Place the banana back on the baking sheet and repeat the same process until all the bananas are coated in chocolate and your chosen topping.
  8. Serve immediately.
  9. If they are not eaten on the spot, keep them in the freezer in an airtight container or a freezer bag with zip and, once out of the freezer, leave them at room temperature for 15 minutes before enjoying them.

Bananas in yogurt

  1. Mix the yogurt.
  2. Dip the frozen bananas into the yogurt, using a spoon to coat each banana evenly.
  3. Let the excess yogurt drip off.
  4. Quickly move the banana to one of the topping dishes and, using a spoon, sprinkle any topping of your choice over the banana, letting the excess fall back into the dish.
  5. Place the banana back on the baking sheet and repeat the same process until all the bananas are coated in yogurt and your chosen topping.
  6. Freeze immediately for about 3 hours or until the yogurt has hardened.
  7. If they are not consumed at the end of these 3 hours, keep them in the freezer in an airtight container or a freezer bag with zip and, taking them out of the freezer, leave them at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before enjoying them.
