Garlic Green Beans Recipe
Garlic Green Beans are sautéed fresh green beans cooked with garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper, then steamed briefly for a crisp-tender texture. The beans are first pan-fried to develop a light sear and tenderize slightly, then finished with garlic and brief steaming to enhance their bright green color and tenderness. This method results in green beans with a fresh garlic aroma and a balance of tender and crisp textures.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Green bean washed and trimmed, fresh
- 2 Tablespoon olive oil divided
- 2 garlic minced, cloves
- ½ teaspoon salt each, freshly ground
- ½ teaspoon black pepper each, freshly ground
- ½ cup water
Instructions
- Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add trimmed green beans to the skillet, season them with salt and black pepper, and saute them stirring often until they are tender for about 5 minutes. (Make sure you don't burn them, reduce the heat if necessary).
- Add minced garlic to the green beans, toss and cook until fragrant for about 30 seconds.
- Pour 1/2 cup water over the green beans and cover the skillet with a lid. Steam the green beans for a couple of minutes, until they are bright green and crisp-tender.
- Drain green beans and transfer them to a serving bowl. Drizzle the remaining olive oil over them and season with a little bit of salt and pepper.
Notes
- Store leftover cooked green beans in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.
- Fresh green beans can be blanched, cooled in ice water, dried, and frozen for up to 12 months for future use.
- To use frozen green beans, thaw and sauté them shortly before serving to retain texture.
