German Currywurst Recipe

German Currywurst features bratwurst sausages cooked until golden and served with a homemade curry-flavored sauce made from ketchup, onion, curry powder, and spices, thickened with honey and balsamic vinegar. The sausage is topped with extra curry powder and typically accompanied by fries or black bread, delivering a savory, slightly sweet, and mildly spicy dish.

Description

The German Currywurst Recipe prepares bratwurst by pan-cooking them in olive oil until they develop a golden brown exterior. The accompanying sauce is created in the same pan by sautéing chopped onions, then mixing in ketchup, curry powder, black pepper, salt, cayenne or paprika, honey, and balsamic vinegar, with water added to adjust consistency. The sauce is cooked until thickened, balancing sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors characteristic of this dish. The cooked bratwurst are plated and generously covered with the curry sauce, then sprinkled with extra curry powder for added aroma and flavor. Traditionally served hot alongside French fries or black bread, the dish combines hearty sausage with a richly spiced sauce for a classic German street food experience.
