Ginger lemongrass tea recipe

Ginger lemongrass tea combines fresh lemongrass stalks and sliced ginger simmered in water to produce a fragrant and soothing herbal tea. The warming, slightly citrusy lemongrass complements the spicy ginger, creating a balanced infusion that can be served hot or chilled. Sweeteners like brown sugar or honey can be added to taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup lemongrass 2.82 oz/ 80g or 8 lemongrass sticks for me (will be different if your stalks are of different lengths) Substitute: lemongrass leaves, bashed then cut into rounds about ½-inch long
  • 3 lices ginger No need to peel.
  • 4 Cups water
  • brown sugar Optional. Substitute: honey, white sugar etc

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Place the lemongrass, ginger and water in a pot. Bring to the boil over high heat.
  2. Reduce the heat and simmer for a minimum of 10 minutes. Taste, and simmer for longer if the flavor is not strong enough.
  3. Once happy with the flavor, switch off the fire and sieve out the lemongrass and ginger. (You can keep them to add to soup.)
  4. For hot tea: sweeten to taste then serve now.
  5. For iced tea: allow the tea to cool then refrigerate for at least 1-3 hours. After chilling, serve with or without ice cubes.

Notes

  • Wash lemongrass thoroughly to remove any soil trapped within the layers before cutting.
  • Lemongrass leaves can be used as a substitute, bashed and cut into ½-inch rounds.
  • Steep the ingredients for longer if a stronger flavor is desired.
  • Leftover ginger and lemongrass from straining can be saved and used in soups for added flavor.
  • Sweeten with brown sugar, honey, or other sweeteners based on preference.
  • Serve hot or chill for iced tea, refrigerating at least 1-3 hours before serving cold.
