Gingerbread Latte

The Gingerbread Latte blends warm spices like ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg within a homemade gingerbread syrup sweetened with molasses and sugars. Mixed with espresso and topped with frothed milk and whipped cream, this drink has a rich, spiced flavor reminiscent of gingerbread cookies. The recipe includes garnishes of fresh nutmeg and optional gingerbread cookies or marshmallows for an inviting presentation suited to colder seasons or holiday moments.

Instructions

To Make the Gingerbread Syrup:
    Cup of Yum
  1. In a medium saucepan, set over medium heat, combine the sugars, molasses, vanilla, ginger, cinnamon and salt. Warm until everything has dissolved and there are no lumps of spices, about 3 to 4 minutes. I find a whisk really helps make this super smooth.
To Make the Gingerbread Latte:
  1. Pour the gingerbread syrup into a cup. Warm it up if it’s straight from the fridge. Pour in the 4 shots of espresso, and top with the frothed milk. whipped cream, freshly grated nutmeg and a little gingerbread cookie or marshmallow for garnish.

Notes

  • Make a double batch of gingerbread syrup and freeze half for easy future use; thaw overnight in the fridge.
  • Gingerbread syrup makes a thoughtful holiday gift when paired with espresso beans and decorated with a ribbon.
