Ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 2 cups milk any
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • brown sugar for topping
  • maple syrup for topping

Instructions

Cook the oats:

  1. Add the oats, milk, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a low simmer, stirring occasionally, and once it simmers, reduce the heat to low.
  2. Add the vanilla and molasses to the warm oats, and stir to mix it into the oatmeal.
  3. Cook on the lowest heat for 5 minutes, stirring from time to time, until the desired consistency is reached. Turn off the heat. For a thicker oatmeal texture, cover and let the oats sit in the saucepan for 3 more minutes.
Serve:
  1. Divide the oatmeal into two bowls and sprinkle with a bit of brown sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup. Sprinkle additional cinnamon if desired.
