Ingredients
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 2 cups milk any
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- Pinch ground cloves
- Pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- brown sugar for topping
- maple syrup for topping
Instructions
Cook the oats:
- Add the oats, milk, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt to a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a low simmer, stirring occasionally, and once it simmers, reduce the heat to low.
- Add the vanilla and molasses to the warm oats, and stir to mix it into the oatmeal.
- Cook on the lowest heat for 5 minutes, stirring from time to time, until the desired consistency is reached. Turn off the heat. For a thicker oatmeal texture, cover and let the oats sit in the saucepan for 3 more minutes.
Serve:
- Divide the oatmeal into two bowls and sprinkle with a bit of brown sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup. Sprinkle additional cinnamon if desired.
