Golden Milk
Golden Milk is a warm spiced beverage made by simmering almond milk with turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, black pepper, and a touch of honey and virgin coconut oil. The combination yields a creamy, fragrant drink with earthy and sweet spice notes, enhanced by vanilla. It can be enjoyed warm or chilled over ice, offering a comforting, mildly sweet spice blend.
Ingredients
- 4 cups almond milk rice milk, coconut milk beverage, or dairy milk, unsweetened
- 2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup (can adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp virgin coconut oil
- 2 tsp Turmeric ground
- 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp cloves ground
- 1/8 tsp black pepper freshly ground
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large saucepan or medium pot whisk together milk, honey, coconut oil, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and black pepper.
- Heat over medium heat just until simmering. Reduce heat to low (should just be a light simmer), cover and let simmer 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and let steep off heat for 5 minutes. Then serve once cool enough to your liking.
- If you would like to serve the drink iced rather than warm, chill in the fridge overnight then serve over ice in glasses.
Notes
- To use whole spices instead of ground, simmer them about 10 minutes then strain before serving.
- Steeping the drink off heat for 5 minutes helps develop deeper spice flavors.
- Use unsweetened almond milk or alternative plant milks; sweeten with honey or maple syrup to taste.
- The recipe yields about 4 cups and can be chilled and served over ice for a cold version.
