Golden Milk
Description
This Golden Milk recipe uses unsweetened almond milk as the base, combined with ground turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and freshly ground black pepper. Virgin coconut oil and honey provide richness and sweetness. The mixture is whisked together and gently heated to a light simmer, then covered and simmered briefly to blend the flavors. Vanilla extract is added after removing from heat, with additional steeping for intensified aroma.
The resulting golden-hued beverage balances the vibrancy of turmeric and warming spices with the creamy texture of coconut oil and almond milk. The honey adds subtle sweetness without overpowering the spices. Black pepper and ginger add mild heat depth, while cinnamon and cardamom contribute aromatic warmth. The drink is smooth but flavorful, suitable for sipping as a soothing warm drink or chilled over ice for refreshment.
Golden Milk can be served as a cozy beverage in the evening or anytime a warming spiced drink is desired. It complements both dairy-free and vegan diets depending on milk choice. The spice blend is designed to bring out turmeric's flavor without bitterness.
Whole spices can be substituted for ground ones by simmering them longer (around 10 minutes) and straining before serving. Steeping off heat improves flavor extraction. Honey and milk choice can be adjusted for preferred sweetness and creaminess. The recipe yields about 4 cups and can be stored chilled for later use.
Ingredients
- 4 cups almond milk rice milk, coconut milk beverage, or dairy milk, unsweetened
- 2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup (can adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp virgin coconut oil
- 2 tsp Turmeric ground
- 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp cloves ground
- 1/8 tsp black pepper freshly ground
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large saucepan or medium pot whisk together milk, honey, coconut oil, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and black pepper.

- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and let steep off heat for 5 minutes. Then serve once cool enough to your liking.
- If you would like to serve the drink iced rather than warm, chill in the fridge overnight then serve over ice in glasses.
Notes
- To use whole spices instead of ground, simmer them about 10 minutes then strain before serving.
- Steeping the drink off heat for 5 minutes helps develop deeper spice flavors.
- Use unsweetened almond milk or alternative plant milks; sweeten with honey or maple syrup to taste.
- The recipe yields about 4 cups and can be chilled and served over ice for a cold version.
