Grasshopper Drink
The Grasshopper Drink is a creamy mint-chocolate cocktail made with equal parts crème de menthe, white crème de cacao, and half and half. The rim of the glass is coated with chocolate or cocoa powder to complement the rich, smooth flavors. Shaken over ice and strained into a chilled glass, this 2¼-ounce cocktail offers a sweet, refreshing dessert-style beverage.
Ingredients
To rim the glass:
- chocolate or cocoa powder, optional (see note 1, shavings
- white creme de cacao or chocolate syrup
To make the cocktail:
- ice
- 3/4 ounce white creme de cacao (see note 2)
- 3/4 ounce Creme de Menthe see note 3, green
- 3/4 ounce half and half or heavy cream (see note 4)
Instructions
- Fill a shallow dish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder. Rub the rim of a chilled martini glass with creme de cacao or chocolate syrup, then turn the rim in the shallow dish to coat.
- In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, combine 3/4 ounce crème de menthe, 3/4 ounce white crème de cacao, and 3/4 ounce half-and-half.
- Shake vigorously until well chilled. Strain into prepared martini glass. Garnish with more chocolate shavings or fresh mint.
Notes
- Use white crème de cacao for a clear color and chocolate flavor.
- Crème de menthe adds mint flavor without creaminess despite its name.
- Choose half and half or heavy cream for creaminess; heavy cream results in a richer drink.
- This recipe makes one 2¼-ounce cocktail, suitable as a dessert or after-dinner drink.
