Greek Seasoning
Greek Seasoning is a blend of dried herbs and spices including basil, garlic powder, Greek oregano, black pepper, cinnamon, dill, marjoram, parsley, rosemary, nutmeg, thyme, and optional salt. The mixture captures aromatic and savory flavors typical of Greek cuisine and can be used to season meats, vegetables, and other dishes that benefit from a balanced herb blend.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons basil dried
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons oregano see note 1, Greek
- 1 teaspoon black pepper ground
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
- 1 teaspoon marjoram dried
- 1 teaspoon parsley dried
- 1 teaspoon rosemary dried
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme ground
- salt (see note 2)
Instructions
- In a small bowl or jar, add basil, garlic powder, Greek oregano, black pepper, cinnamon, dill, marjoram, parsley, rosemary, nutmeg, and thyme. Add salt to taste (I like 1 teaspoon, or omit entirely). Store in an airtight container.
Notes
- Use Greek oregano for its savory and earthy flavor, or substitute with your preferred oregano variety.
- Omit salt in the seasoning blend if you want to control salt levels separately during cooking.
- Store the seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dark place to maintain potency for up to six months.
- This recipe yields just over 4 tablespoons (about 1/4 cup) of seasoning.
