Green Bean Casserole From Scratch
This Green Bean Casserole From Scratch combines fresh green beans, sliced portobello mushrooms, and onions in a creamy gruyere cheese sauce topped with crispy fried onions. Ingredients
- 1 lb Green bean trimmed, fresh
- 1 lb portobello mushrooms sliced
- 2 onion sliced
- 2 tablespoons parsley chopped
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup gruyere cheese grated
- 3.5 oz fried onions crispy
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 Degrees Fahrenheit
- In a large microwave-safe bowl place the Green Beans with 2 teaspoons of water, salt, and pepper. Microwave for 2-3 minutes or until cooked. Place them in cold water to stop cooking, drain and set aside
- In a large wide mouth skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and cook for 2-3 minutes or until softened
- Add the onions, parsley, salt, and pepper and cook until the onions have softened. About 5 minutes.
- Pour in the flour and cook while stirring for 1 minute or until the flour has cooked
- Add in the milk and the green beans and mix until the sauce has thickened. Check for seasoning and add more salt and pepper if needed
- Place this mixture in an oven safe dish
- In a small bowl mix the onions and the cheese. Sprinkle them over the green bean mixture
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until browned and bubbly
- Remove from heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before cutting
