Green Taco Seasoning
Green Taco Seasoning is a homemade spice blend featuring dried green bell pepper flakes, onion powders, garlic powder, cumin, cilantro, oregano, and various peppers for heat. This seasoning mix is used to flavor ground or shredded meat, simmered with water to create a well-seasoned taco filling. It can be made in bulk and stored for later use.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon green bell pepper flakes dried
- 2 teaspoons white onion dried, minced
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon cilantro dried
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt Morton brand
- ½ teaspoon Mexican oregano (or regular oregano)
- ¼ teaspoon jalapeno pepper dried, crushed
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 pinch red pepper flakes dried
Instructions
- Measure all ingredients into a small bowl, then stir to combine. Use immediately, or store in an airtight jar or container in a cool, dark spot for up to 6 months.
Notes
- This recipe yields about 1/4 cup seasoning, perfect for seasoning 1 pound of meat.
- For best flavor, sprinkle the seasoning after browning the meat and add water before simmering to absorb flavors.
- Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to six months.
- Grinding the mixture when making in bulk helps keep spices evenly sized, but stirring well before use works if not ground.
