Ham Breakfast Casserole
Ham Breakfast Casserole layers cubed waffles, diced ham, and grated cheddar cheese soaked in an egg and milk mixture with paprika and salt, baked until set. The result is a savory, cheesy casserole with a custard-like texture and crispy edges. Served warm with maple syrup, it offers a combination of sweet and savory flavors suitable for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
- 4 ounces ham cubed, leftover
- 6 egg large
- 2 cups whole milk 500ml
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces cheddar cheese grated
- 10.5 ounces Waffles cut into cubes
- maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C.
- Mix together milk, eggs, paprika, and salt in a large bowl.
- In a large skillet, layer in half of the waffles, then half of the ham, then half of the grated cheese. Then repeat with remaining half of the waffles, ham and cheese.
- Pour the egg mixture into the skillet.
- Cover and bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Take the skillet out and remove the foil. Return to oven and then cook for another 20-30 minutes.
Notes
- Prepare the egg and milk mixture ahead to save time and deepen flavors.
- Generously grease the baking dish to prevent sticking; butter or spray works well.
- Cube waffles evenly for consistent soaking and cooking throughout.
- Layer waffles, ham, and cheese twice for even distribution of ingredients.
- Whisk eggs, milk, paprika, and salt thoroughly to ensure even flavor.
- Avoid overcooking; aim for a set but slightly creamy center to keep moistness.
- Allow casserole to rest after baking to firm up and ease slicing.
- Drizzle warm casserole with maple syrup before serving for balanced sweet-savory flavor.
