Hamburger Gravy
Hamburger gravy is a rich, savory sauce made from ground beef cooked with onion and garlic, thickened with flour, and simmered in a combination of milk and beef broth. It’s flavored with Worcestershire sauce and seasoned simply with salt and pepper, creating a hearty gravy that pairs well with biscuits or mashed potatoes. The cooking process allows the beef fat to meld into the sauce, giving it a smooth, comforting texture and a balanced, meaty flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef lean
- ½ small onion diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 beef bouillon cube
Instructions
- Brown ground beef, onion and garlic until no pink remains. Do not drain.
- You should have some fat in the bottom of the skillet, if not, add 1 tablespoon butter or oil. Stir in Worcestershire.
- Stir in flour and allow to cook 2 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients and stir. Cook over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Season with salt & pepper to taste.
- Serve over biscuits or mashed potatoes.
Notes
- For a creamier gravy, reduce beef broth to 1/2 cup and increase milk to 1 1/2 cups.
