Harissa Yogurt Dip

Harissa Yogurt Dip

Harissa Yogurt Dip blends sautéed garlic with harissa paste, Greek yogurt, sour cream, lemon juice, and seasonings for a creamy, spicy condiment. Garlic is first gently browned in olive oil to mellow its flavor before mixing into the dairy base. The result is a dip with tangy, zesty notes and a balanced heat from harissa paste. This versatile dip pairs well with pita, vegetables, sandwiches, and can also be used as a sauce for gyros or shawarma bowls.

Ingredients

  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 TBSP extra virgin olive oil
  • 1-2 TBSP harissa paste
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1-2 TBSP lemon juice fresh
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¾ tsp salt

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Peel and mince garlic.
  2. Add garlic and oil to a small skillet and heat to medium-high. Sauté, stirring often, for approx. 1-2 minutes until garlic is fragrant. Remove from heat once garlic begins to brown.
  3. In a large bowl, add yogurt, sour cream garlic (in oil) and season with salt and garlic powder. Add one tablespoon each of harissa paste and lemon juice and mix well. Give it a taste and if you can handle the heat, add that extra tablespoon! Loving the lemon? Add another tablespoon. I loved mine with 2 TBSP each of lemon juice and harissa paste.
  4. Mix it all together and dive in with pita and veggies or use it as a zesty sandwich spread for a pita pocket or wrap. Making it in advance? It'll stay fresh 3-4 days in the fridge.

Notes

  • This dip can be made ahead and refrigerated for 3 to 4 days to let flavors develop further.
  • Adjust levels of harissa paste and lemon juice to control heat and brightness to your taste.
  • Use it as a dip for pita chips and fresh vegetables or as a spread for chicken gyros or wraps.
  • It pairs well with grilled meats, roasted veggies, and can be drizzled over shawarma bowls.
