Hemp Milk
This Hemp Milk recipe combines hemp hearts with water, sweetened mildly with Medjool dates and flavored with vanilla extract. The blender mixes all ingredients until smooth, and typically the milk is strained to remove pulp, resulting in a creamy, mild nutty beverage. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to five days, providing a plant-based milk alternative with subtle natural sweetness and a hint of vanilla.
Ingredients
- 4 cups water 32 ounces, filtered
- 1/2 cup hemp hearts (70 grams)
- 2 large Medjool dates (pitted; or 1 tablespoon maple syrup)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 grams)
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until the hemp hearts are completely broken down, about 60 seconds.
- Pour the milk through a fine mesh strainer or nut milk bag, to remove any pulp. (There won't be a lot strained out, so this is optional if you don't mind a bit of sediment in the bottom of your cup.) Serve right away, or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Notes
- Using pitted Medjool dates sweetens the milk naturally but maple syrup can be substituted if preferred.
- Straining the milk is optional; leaving pulp adds texture but not much volume.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 5 days for best freshness.
- Shake well before use to redistribute any settled sediment.
