Homemade Breadsticks

Homemade Breadsticks are fluffy, buttery, soft, and super easy to make with only a few pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Breadstick Dough:
  • 1 cup warm water about 110 degrees Fahrenheit
  • 1 1/4 tablespoon instant dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Topping:
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, combine warm water, yeast, sugar, salt, and olive oil.
  2. Add 2 cups of flour and mix at low speed.
  3. Increase the speed to a medium and slowly add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Mix until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The dough should be slightly sticky and soft, but shouldn't stick to your hands.
  4. Pay attention and either add more or less flour until the dough reaches the right consistency.
  5. Transfer the dough to a lightly greased mixing bowl and cover it with a kitchen towel and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm place.
  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Punch the dough down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 9 to 10-inch long rope and arrange it on the baking sheet, a few inches apart.
  8. Let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  10. Bake the breadsticks for 16 to 18 minutes, until golden brown on top.
Topping:
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the butter, salt, and garlic powder. Brush the mixture on top of the breadsticks immediately after baking.
  2. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and dried herbs as desired. Serve.
