Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup onion finely diced
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 8 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon basil dried
  • 1 teaspoon oregano dried
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste

  1. Cook onion and garlic in olive oil over medium heat until tender, about 10 minutes.
  2. Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste and stir until smooth.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cook 30 minutes or until thickened.

Notes

  • You can add additional tomato paste (up to 6 oz) for a stronger tomato flavor and thicker consistency.
  • Cook the sauce gently to allow flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken properly.
