Homemade Pizza Sauce
This homemade pizza sauce is made by sautéing onion and garlic in olive oil before adding crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Seasoned with dried basil, oregano, sugar, and salt, the sauce simmers until thickened, providing a balanced and flavorful base for pizzas. Its cooked depth enhances homemade or store-bought dough, making it a practical pizza staple.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ cup onion finely diced
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 8 ounces crushed tomatoes
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon basil dried
- 1 teaspoon oregano dried
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
Instructions
- Cook onion and garlic in olive oil over medium heat until tender, about 10 minutes.
- Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste and stir until smooth.
- Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cook 30 minutes or until thickened.
Notes
