Homemade Salsa
Homemade Salsa combines diced Roma tomatoes, minced red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, and salt to create a fresh, chunky condiment. This salsa balances citrus brightness with a mild heat from jalapeño and the savory depth of garlic and onion.
Ingredients
- 1/2 small red onion minced
- 2 tablespoons lime juice about 1 lime
- 5 medium Roma tomato diced
- 1/2 cup cilantro chopped, fresh
- 1 medium jalapeño stem removed and finely minced
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Mince 1/2 small red onion and place it into a mixing bowl. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons lime juice and let sit while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
- Dice 5 medium roma tomatoes1 medium jalapeno and prepare 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro. Add to the onions along with 1 clove minced garlic and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- Stir until well combined. Season with additional salt to taste.
Notes
- To make tomatillo salsa (Salsa Verde), substitute Roma tomatoes with husked and quartered tomatillos.
- For roasted tomato salsa, broil Roma tomatoes until skins blacken, peel after cooling, and then proceed with the recipe.
