Homemade Steak Sauce Recipe (Peter Luger Steak Sauce)
This homemade steak sauce blends ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, cider vinegar, and optional additions like hot sauce, horseradish, and anchovy paste. The resulting sauce offers a tangy, sweet, and slightly spicy condiment designed to complement grilled or pan-seared steaks. It can also be used to enhance chicken or sandwiches, providing a savory boost to various dishes.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar or light brown sugar + 1 teaspoon molasses
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon horseradish optional, prepared
- 1 teaspoon anchovy paste , optional
- salt to taste, couple shakes
- black pepper to taste, couple shakes
Instructions
- Combine the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce dark brown sugar, mustard,vinegar, hot sauce, Dijon mustard, cider vinegar, horseradish and anchovy paste in a small bowl.
- Mix well, taste and then add fine sea salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 1 hour, or up to 1 week.
- Serve with steak or chicken. It also tastes great on sandwiches!
