Homemade Steak Sauce Recipe (Peter Luger Steak Sauce)

This homemade steak sauce blends ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, cider vinegar, and optional additions like hot sauce, horseradish, and anchovy paste. The resulting sauce offers a tangy, sweet, and slightly spicy condiment designed to complement grilled or pan-seared steaks. It can also be used to enhance chicken or sandwiches, providing a savory boost to various dishes.

Description

The Homemade Steak Sauce Recipe inspired by Peter Luger combines common kitchen ingredients such as ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, dark brown sugar, Dijon mustard, cider vinegar, and hot sauce to create a rich and balanced sauce. Optional horseradish adds pungency, while anchovy paste contributes umami depth without fishiness.

Mixing these ingredients creates a tangy, slightly sweet, and mildly spicy sauce with complex flavor layers. It is chilled for at least one hour to allow flavors to meld and can be stored refrigerated for up to a week.

This versatile sauce enhances the flavor of steak or chicken and can also be used as a condiment on sandwiches. Its thickness and tang balance well with savory grilled meats.
