Homemade Taco Seasoning (No Added Salt)
This Homemade Taco Seasoning (No Added Salt) blends chili powder, cumin, onion and garlic powders, oregano, cayenne, smoked paprika, and black pepper to create a balanced mix that replaces commercial packets. It offers control over salt content and spiciness, making it adaptable to various Mexican-inspired dishes such as tacos, burritos, and seasoned meats.
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon ground chili powder
- 1 Tablespoon cumin 1 teaspoon
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon oregano dried
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for a little heat
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika for regular paprika, use ½ teaspoon
- ⅛ - ¼ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
Instructions
- In a bowl, add all of the ingredients and whisk or stir until completely incorporated together. Or, shake them together in a jar. Store in an airtight container in a dark cupboard for up to six months.
- Use in place of a taco seasoning packet or in your favorite Mexican-inspired recipes. Add salt to the recipes, to taste.
Notes
- This seasoning mix yields about 3½ tablespoons, roughly equivalent to one store-bought packet, suitable for multiple uses.
- Make larger batches by multiplying the recipe and store in an airtight container for up to six months for convenience.
- Adjust the cayenne amount according to your heat preference or omit for milder flavor.
- Add salt directly to dishes as desired since the blend contains no salt, offering control over sodium intake.
