Homemade Teriyaki Chicken

This Teriyaki Chicken recipe is tangy, savory, and best of all, homemade. Made in less than 30 minutes and served alongside rice and veggies.

Ingredients

For the Teriyaki Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger or use fresh
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or use fresh
  • 1 tablespoons sesame seeds
For the Chicken:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • Extra sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a liquid measuring cup or small bowl, whisk all ingredients for teriyaki sauce together until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Spray a large skillet with nonstick cooking spray and then add the olive oil. Preheat over medium heat. Sprinkle chicken with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Add to hot pan and cook, stirring frequently, until completely cooked through.
  3. Once chicken is cooked, pour over teriyaki sauce liquid and bring to a simmer. As the sauce simmers, it will thicken. Once sauce has thickened, add more sesame seeds as garnish and serve with steamed broccoli and white rice.
