Homemade White Rice Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white rice short grain
  • 3 cups water
  • pinch of salt optional

Instructions

  1. Combine rice, water, and salt in a medium saucepan on the stovetop. Don't mix the rice and water very much (see note).
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cover. 
  3. Simmer covered for 15-20 minutes, or until the majority of the liquid is absorbed by the rice. 
  4. Let stand 5 minutes. 

Notes

  • For very sticky rice, stir the rice and water before cooking. For minimal stickiness, rinse the rise in a fine mesh strainer before cooking.
