Honey & Garlic Cough & Cold Elixir
The Honey & Garlic Cough & Cold Elixir blends sliced garlic cloves with raw honey and a cinnamon stick left to infuse for several days. This preparation yields a spoonable, mildly sweet and aromatic elixir that can be taken by mouth to soothe symptoms associated with colds or sore throats.
Ingredients
- 20 cloves garlic peeled & sliced
- ¾ cup honey raw
- 1 large cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Peel the garlic
- Place the cinnamon and garlic in a mason jar.
- Pour honey over top of the garlic.
- Cover with a lid and let sit on the counter for four days.
- Once it's "done" you can place it in the fridge to keep.
- To use: pop a clove of garlic or a teaspoon of honey into your mouth when you feel a cold or sore throat coming on.
Notes
- Slicing garlic cloves rather than using whole cloves makes the elixir more palatable.
- Darker honeys, such as buckwheat honey, are recommended for their enhanced properties.
- Letting the mixture sit for four days allows flavors and components to meld fully before refrigerating.
- Consume a clove or a teaspoon of honey at the onset of cold symptoms for relief.
