Honey & Garlic Cough & Cold Elixir

The Honey & Garlic Cough & Cold Elixir blends sliced garlic cloves with raw honey and a cinnamon stick left to infuse for several days. This preparation yields a spoonable, mildly sweet and aromatic elixir that can be taken by mouth to soothe symptoms associated with colds or sore throats.

Ingredients

  • 20 cloves garlic peeled & sliced
  • ¾ cup honey raw
  • 1 large cinnamon stick

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Peel the garlic
  2. Place the cinnamon and garlic in a mason jar.
  3. Pour honey over top of the garlic.
  4. Cover with a lid and let sit on the counter for four days.
  5. Once it's "done" you can place it in the fridge to keep.
  6. To use: pop a clove of garlic or a teaspoon of honey into your mouth when you feel a cold or sore throat coming on.

Notes

  • Slicing garlic cloves rather than using whole cloves makes the elixir more palatable.
  • Darker honeys, such as buckwheat honey, are recommended for their enhanced properties.
  • Letting the mixture sit for four days allows flavors and components to meld fully before refrigerating.
  • Consume a clove or a teaspoon of honey at the onset of cold symptoms for relief.
