Honey & Garlic Cough & Cold Elixir

The Honey & Garlic Cough & Cold Elixir blends sliced garlic cloves with raw honey and a cinnamon stick left to infuse for several days. This preparation yields a spoonable, mildly sweet and aromatic elixir that can be taken by mouth to soothe symptoms associated with colds or sore throats.

Description

The Honey & Garlic Cough & Cold Elixir consists of peeled, sliced garlic combined with raw honey and a large cinnamon stick placed in a mason jar. After sitting at room temperature for four days to allow flavors to meld and infuse, the mixture can be refrigerated for preservation. The slicing of garlic makes it easier and more pleasant to consume compared to whole cloves.

The elixir produces a potent blend combining honey’s sweetness and soothing properties with the pungency and expected health attributes of garlic and the warming aroma of cinnamon. It is intended to be consumed by eating a garlic clove piece or a teaspoon of the honey when cold symptoms appear.

The note highlights that darker honey varieties, like buckwheat or other dark blends, might offer enhanced benefits. The recipe is straightforward, involving minimal preparation but several days of infusion time for optimum effect.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 20 cloves garlic peeled & sliced
  • ¾ cup honey raw
  • 1 large cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Peel the garlic
  2. Place the cinnamon and garlic in a mason jar.
  3. Pour honey over top of the garlic.
  4. Cover with a lid and let sit on the counter for four days.
  5. Once it's "done" you can place it in the fridge to keep.
  6. To use: pop a clove of garlic or a teaspoon of honey into your mouth when you feel a cold or sore throat coming on.

Notes

  • Slicing garlic cloves rather than using whole cloves makes the elixir more palatable.
  • Darker honeys, such as buckwheat honey, are recommended for their enhanced properties.
  • Letting the mixture sit for four days allows flavors and components to meld fully before refrigerating.
  • Consume a clove or a teaspoon of honey at the onset of cold symptoms for relief.
