Hot Dog Buns Recipe

Homemade Hot Dog Buns are soft, fluffy, and delicious. They're the perfect way to make a classic ball park snack into a gourmet dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 1/2 cups flour , divided
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast , 0.25 ounce
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. To a medium saucepan add the milk, water and butter on medium heat.
  2. Using a thermometer, heat to 115-120 degrees.
  3. While the milk mixture is heating assemble dry ingredients.
  4. In a stand mixer add 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast and salt.
  5. Mix with a dough hook to combine.
  6. When milk comes to temperature, turn the dough hook onto medium speed.
  7. Add in the milk mixture in a thin stream.
  8. Once the milk mixture is added in, add in the egg.
  9. When egg is mixed in, start adding the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time.
  10. Once the flour is all absorbed, continue to use the dough hook to knead the dough for 5-6 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic and pulls away from the bowl.
  11. Cover and let rise in a warm space for 1 hour.
  12. Punch down the dough.
  13. Cut the dough into 16 even pieces.
  14. Roll into 6" long logs, pushing in the sides so they do not come to a point.
  15. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  16. Flatten gently, cover with a clean dry kitchen towel and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  17. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  18. Remove kitchen towel, bake for 11-13 minutes.
  19. Allow to cool completely before slicing and assembling.
