Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 ½ cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder for the topping. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the batter.
  6. Pour the hot water over the entire surface of the cake batter and topping. Do not stir.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is firm.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool for a few minutes before serving.
