Hot Fudge Sauce
Hot Fudge Sauce is a rich, creamy topping made with half and half, brown sugar, butter, and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Simmering the dairy and sugar together dissolves sweetness and creates a silky base. The melted chocolate folded in yields a smooth, fudgy texture with a deep chocolate flavor, enhanced by vanilla extract. This sauce serves well warm over ice cream or desserts, and can also be cooled and stored for later use, making it a convenient addition to sweet treats.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups half and half or light cream
- ¾ cup brown sugar packed
- 3 tablespoons butter unsalted
- 2 ½ cups chocolate chips semi-sweet
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine half and half and brown sugar over medium heat until until brown sugar has dissolved and tiny bubbles start to form on the edges.
- Stir in the butter until melted, and turn off the heat.
- Add the chocolate chips and do not stir. Let sit for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Whisk chocolate chips until smooth, stir in vanilla, and serve warm or cool.
Notes
- Store sauce in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
- Reheat gently using low microwave power or a stovetop water bath to avoid burning.
- Freeze sauce for longer storage; thaw slowly over medium heat.
- Add a little milk after reheating if the sauce becomes too thick.
